D-Chiro Inositol & D-Pinnitol

D-Chiro-inositol increases the action of insulin in patients with the polycystic ovary syndrome, thereby improving ovulatory function and decreasing serum androgen concentrations, blood pressure, and plasma triglyceride concentrations.”

This is the exciting conclusion reached by Dr Nestler and his team of researchers.

SPECIAL NEWS: Pure DCI powder is now available for sale at a significant discount to other providers from My PCOS Info.

This is the cheapest DCI being retailed in the world (current 30 Oct 09) and I hope to keep it that way.  The more cysters who buy their DCI through me, the cheaper I will be able to sell it.  Having PCOS myself, I understand the financial burden it causes and want to do my best to help alleviate that.

18 g packets (= to 60 x 300 mg capsules) of DCI are available for $30 AUD (approx $22.50 USD or £ 13.50 Pounds Sterling).  This may last you as long as a month depending upon your dosage requirements.

100 g packets are available at a 10% discount for $150.  This is enough for 83 days or almost 3 months at 1200 mg a day. This is equal to $27 AUD per 18 grams.

200 g packets are available at a 16% discount for $280.  This is enough for 166 days or around 5.5 months at 1200 mg a day.  This is equal to only $21.60 AUD per 18 grams!

I am currently obtaining my Masters in Dietetics and Nutrtion and have been trying to compound enough data on the benefits of inositol for PCOS.
I am trying to put together a study and intervention for PCOS patients that will focus on dietary changes as well as natural supplementation focusing on the inositol family.

Any information would be very helpful as I would love to help in my quest to make life and pregnancy much easier for us all.

Thank you for all your research!

      Ashley,

Thank you for your kind comments – it really makes spending all the time and effort researching this and putting this website together worthwhile, to know that there are people out there whom it is helping.

The reference section at the bottom of pages or, if I have been especially longwinded as in the DCI article – the Links to Resources page: https://pcosinfo.wordpress.com/treatments/natural/dci/resources/ is a good place to start … when you have a solid week to read it all 🙂

I will email you with copies of some of the relevant studies that I have saved.

Do let me know how you go, and if there’s anything I can do to assist with the study. I studied Orthomolecular Nutrition and did a post graduate Diploma in Clinical Nutrition about a million years ago myself … it’s a very interesting field.

      Kind regards,

      Anne

What is the recommended dosage with the DCI powder? I was told that if your weight is under 130lbs/60kilos, you should take 600mg in capsule form and if you are over, to take 1200mg. Is the dosage different with the powder?

    • Belrosa says:

As DCI is still the subject of clinical trials, it is a little too early to say what ‘the recommended dosage’ is. The information you have been given has likely been tailored by a company that sells DCI in 600 mg increments. As with most drugs and supplements, the right dosage for each individual will vary based on a number of factors such as age, weight, the amount of carbohydrates consumed and the type (low or high GI).

The earlier studies ten years ago were based on a dose of 1200 mg DCI once daily in the morning for overweight women and 600 mg once daily in the morning for lean women, and this is likely where the advice you received about the capsules came from. The more recent studies and clinical results have been trialling amounts up to 3000 mg per day and in divided doses rather than once daily.

Therefore, the current recommendation, whether for powder or capsules as they are essentially identical, is to take between 10 and 20 mg per kilogram of your bodyweight per day in two or three separate doses. This is much easier to achieve with the powder as you can measure out precisely how much you should be having at each time, rather than having to ‘make do’ with 600 mg capsules.

For instance if you weigh 132 lb or 60 kg, you could take between 600 and 1200 mg per day. If you weigh 220 lbs or 100 kg your recommended daily therapeutic dose would be between 1000 mg and 2000 mg.

    Dear Anne,

Thanks so much for such a swift reply! You’ve answered a lot of my questions
effectively with just one simple email.

I would be interested in seeing any of the studies you might have at your
disposal, if it is not too much of an inconvenience. I guess my last
question would be your opinion of the quality of the powder versus the
capsules. I was looking into Chiral Balance capsules, but recently found
some information about ‘filler’ put in the capsules that dilutes the actual
    DCI.

    Thanks again,
    Lindsey

  4. Belrosa says:

    Lindsey,

I will write back to you personally and attach some studies for you, but essentially I personally feel it is better to have the pure DCI powder without all the fillers etc as they can have a negative effect on digestion, causing nausea in some cysters. The active ingredient is identical – in fact I believe it is manufactured by the same chemist.

    Kind regards,

    Anne

I need know how can I Order D-Chiro and how much is , I am at Kansas USA – Thank you!

    • My PCOS Info says:

      Hi Vivi,

DCI is $30 AUD for 18 grams, $150 for 100 grams ($25 per 18 grams) or $280 for 200 grams ($21.60 per 18 grams). This equates to between $1.40 and $1.67 per gram and is the cheapest DCI being retailed in the world at present, to the best of my knowledge.

Postage rates to the USA for 18 or 36 grams by regular airmail is $2.40 AUD. 100 grams costs $4.60 by regular Airmail and 200 grams costs $7.10. Registered Mail costs $20 AUD for up to 500 gm.

If you send me an email to anne@mypcos.info with the amount you wish to order and the type of postage you require (regular Airmail or registered) I will send you a Paypal invoice which you can pay from either a bank account or credit card without the need to sign up for a Paypal account.

I look forward to hearing from you.

      Kind regards, Anne

Thank you for the dosage info as i was getting conflicting info. Almost all the sites say to take 1200mg ina single dose except the info i received with my order from chiral balance which recommened 10/-20mg per kg of body weight. I was suspicious that they were just trying to sell me more product but your site confirmed its truthfulness. Also i’m taking the myo- form also for ocd. Any kind of info on that would be appreciated. Again, thanks.

  7. Kay says:

I am thinking about starting on this, but I am very confused about whether it has an effect on my most troublesome symptom, hair loss. I have seen answers to this question in both directions… “yes, it can halt hair loss with a possibility of regrowth”, and “no, these follicles have been permanently changed and d-chiro-inositol will not promote regrowth”.
Whether d-chiro-inositol is going to be the answer with regards to my hair loss or not isn’t likely to stop me from trying it, as I have other symptoms that are worth trying it for. But this hair loss question is something that I would really like some advice on before starting on it.
My situation feels pretty hopeless, and on one hand… surely if anything could truly reverse PCOS hair loss, everyone would be taking it by now regardless of the cost. But on the other, if these follicles were really well and truly dead… why did I temporarily grow hair on minoxidil (which I had to stop due to side effects), and why did some regrowth also come through on Spiro’ (which I had to stop because it caused a stomach ulcer)?
I’m glad to be giving this a go (to combat the lethargy and other symptoms), but should I be hopeful at all about scalp hair, or not really monitoring that symptom looking for improvement?

    • My PCOS Info says:

      Hi Kay,

Firstly, thank you for subscribing to the blog the other day. I actually don’t maintain this website any longer as I’ve migrated the content to my very own domain – http://www.mypcos.info – so you would be better off signing up for updates from there.

Secondly, with respect to hair loss the permanence of damage to the hair follicles depends on the amount of time that they have been subjected to high levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT causes inflammation in the hair follicle which makes the hair grow thinner and fall out sooner. Over time it completely inhibits the hair from growing at all and the longer the follicle is exposed to the DHT the more it is damaged and the greater the chance that the follicle will be unable to grow hair again.

If you have had some success with hair regrowth, that is an indication that the inflammation has not yet progressed to the point of permanent damage. That being said, it will take at least 6 months for you to see results (as I’m sure you are aware from taking Spironolactone and Minoxidil), due to the hair growth cycle.

As hair loss is such a pressing issue for so many women with PCOS, I’ve written an article on the subject here: http://mypcos.info/1/q-a/hair-loss/ which you might find of interest.

Good luck with everything, if there’s anything else you’d like to know just ask.

      All the best,

      Anne

  8. Lucy says:

Is it ok to take DCI if you’re not insulin resistant?

    • My PCOS Info says:

Yes, DCI is a water soluble nutrient found in some foods, like chickpeas, soybeans and buckwheat. I’ve also had feedback from several customers who are considered to be NOT insulin resistant, that DCI has been effective for them also. This poses a lot of questions about the sensitivity of testing for insulin resistance and the protocols being used to test for it.

    • My PCOS Info says:

Yes, I’ve had several customers tell me that DCI has helped their symptoms even though they are considered not to be insulin resistant.

  9. autumn says:

i am taking 1200 mg dci currently, 600mg in the am and 600 in the pm before dinner, Would it be more beneficial to take the entire 1200mg in the am versus splitting the dosage?

    • My PCOS Info says:

As DCI is a water soluble nutrient and excreted fairly quickly, you would actually be better off taking it more frequently rather than less. 300 mg on waking, prior to each meal and before bed would spread the dose out most effectively. I am assuming you are taking the correct amount for your weight? It is recommended that one take at least 20 mg per kilogram of bodyweight per day.

    • My PCOS Info says:

As DCI is a water soluble nutrient, it is best taken in divided doses, so what you are doing is great.

  10. Azura says:

Is it safe to take in conjunction with metformin?

    • My PCOS Info says:

Yes perfectly. Metformin actually increases the production of DCI-IPG in the liver, so many people have found that metformin and d-chiro inositol work very well together. Your dr should monitor your blood sugar levels though as you may need to reduce or eliminate the metformin over time, if you take DCI.
